Petro-Clear - Case study

Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil Problems in situ - Underground Storage Tank remediation

An underground leaking motor oil storage tank went unnoticed and unemptied for 15 years. Contamination Area: Two batches of soil were contaminated with motor oil.

In situ treatment: Soil was treated with 2 gallons of Petro-Clear IC per cubic yard. Nutrients were added according to recommendations and aeration provided.

208 cubic yards 178 cubic yards
Days Batch 1 in ppm Batch 2 in ppm
1 18,000 8,530
10 3,400 3,400
21 2,425 2,390
24 1,409 1,635
40 1,009 1,240
43 803 804
61 147 197

Suggested Dosages:

Hydrate 2 lbs of Petro-Clear in 5 gallons of unchlorinated water

Dispense hyrated product  approx. 1-3 Gallons per cubic meter of soil, use the higher dose for high levels of contamination to reduce the completion time. Apply initial strength of 1 gallon of supernat  per cubic meter to get the most even distribution in the soil, depending on aeration technology. Second application may be necessary.

Product should be applied as soon as possible after the oil spill or leak has occurred. Most effective when soil temperatures range from 5 to 45º C. Bioremediation in soil will work so long as the ground is not frozen although the process greatly accelerates once the soil has reached a temperature above 50°F. For optimum performance, these temperature considerations must be addressed and nutrient and oxygen levels must be maintained at proper levels. Effective over a wide pH range (6.0 to 8.5; optimum 7.5 )
